The Management Board has been informed of the passing of former Birmingham League player and umpire David Cook on 20th December 2021. A left-arm seamer, who, generally, bowled around the wicket, David was a fierce competitor who played as a professional for Walsall in 1969 before moving to Moseley. He, also, played club cricket for Coventry & N.W. and Stratford-upon-Avon as well as first class cricket for Warwickshire and representative cricket for the Midlands Club Conference.
He was, also, a noted rugby union player for Coventry and one of the few players to represent the County at two different sports. As an umpire, he was never afraid to make a decision in favour of the bowler and didn’t suffer fools gladly! The epitome of a “poacher turned game-keeper” he was very critical of player behaviour in recent years but earned much respect amongst colleagues for his outspoken views on the subject.
